Warning signs

The inside(of the fume hood)is full of chemicals and equipment

2-3 Professional advice

It is not uncommon where the interior of the fume hood is filled with chemicals, sample bottles, instruments, etc., and where the work space for experiments becomes limited.

Because there is always a possibility of chemical vapors or gas leakage in the laboratory, there is this tendency to put reagent bottles or containers in the fume hood as a precaution.

However, what happens when the fume hood is turned off during the night? Eventually, the gas from the hood leaks into the laboratory.

If the interior of the fume hood is full of equipment, it can also interfere with proper exhaust.

Bear in my mind not to leave chemicals or samples in the fume hood, to manage them in a dedicated storage or the like, and to keep them organized all the time.

2-3 Advice for Initial support/correspondence

Consult with the lab manager or the facility administrator, and first check whether proper exhaust air volume is guaranteed.

When it is necessary to move some equipment when clearing the interior or when changing the location of some equipment, make sure to inform the other users of the fume hood.
